Prices and postcode lookup

You can pick a region without entering a postcode. When you choose Find region, your browser sends the postcode directly to Octopus Energy to find your electricity network region. OctoBuddy does not send the postcode to an OctoBuddy server or save it in site storage. The result can be used to set your region.

When you view prices, your browser sends the region, tariff edition and fuel needed for the lookup directly to Octopus Energy. These requests also disclose your IP address and standard request information to Octopus Energy. Octopus Energy handles requests to its service under its own privacy policy.

Choices saved on your device

OctoBuddy uses your browser’s local storage to remember your region, tariff editions and Tracker fuel on this device. These settings stay there until you turn remembering off or clear the site’s data. The browser may also cache site files and public price responses according to its settings.

You can use the site without an account.

If you turn remembering off, OctoBuddy clears the saved tariff choices and keeps only a setting on this device so it can respect your decision. You can turn remembering back on here at any time. The price lookup works either way.

Hosting and technical information

When you open OctoBuddy, your browser sends standard connection information, including your IP address, to the hosting service so it can deliver the site. Technical request information may also be used to keep the site secure and diagnose faults. SimplyNow LIMITED relies on its legitimate interests in operating and protecting the service for this processing.

Site analytics

OctoBuddy uses Cloudflare Web Analytics on octobuddy.app to count visits and page views and see where the site can improve. It runs by default for these statistical purposes. Cloudflare receives information such as the page path, referring site when available, browser type and page timings. Cloudflare discards the connection IP address at its network edge and makes reports available to us for up to six months.

Cloudflare’s analytics script uses no cookies. Tariff choices and postcodes are excluded from analytics. You can turn analytics off at any time. OctoBuddy saves that choice separately from tariff preferences in this browser until you turn analytics back on or clear the site’s data.

Your rights and complaints

Where UK data protection law applies, you may have rights to access, correct or erase personal information, restrict or object to its use, or receive a copy in a portable format. If your request relates to information handled by Octopus Energy, its privacy policy explains how to contact it.
